Schindler Update 2013_01_15

Dear Faithful Friends and Supporters,

Greetings from Taipei and Happy New Year! We trust you all enjoyed a wonderful holiday season with family and friends, and that you have entered 2013 with great expectations for what the Lord will do this year! Our last month included Christmas celebrations at local women’s shelters, caroling in a local park, a baptism of a small group member, leading two new believers in a discipleship course, and a trip to the Eastern part of Taiwan to help serve at a conference in a daughter church plant of Truth. We thank the Lord for the strength and grace He extends to us daily, and are anxious to see the great things He has in store in 2013!

How can you being praying for us?

  • God has given us a burden to engage in a non-traditional church plant, focusing on bringing the church into working class communities. Pray for God’s guidance as we pray and plan with our Pastor and other leaders.
  • Our home assignment is scheduled for July-October 2013. During this time we hope to reconnect with churches and individuals sharing what the Lord is doing in Taiwan, and as well to be refreshed through time together with family and friends. Travel expenses will be around $6,000, including both the baby and us. If you feel led to give a one-time gift towards this cause, we’d be very thankful!   • Little boy Schindler is healthy and all is going well with the pregnancy-thank the Lord!

Schindler Update 2012_08_15

Dear Faithful Friends and Supporters,

Greetings from Taipei! This past month has been a bit of a whirlwind of travels, as Kelley was in the USA for 3 weeks, and then we were together in the Philippines for 5 days. We are thankful for God’s protection as we traveled many miles by plane, car, boat, and motorcycle during the last few weeks. It was wonderful for Kelley to reconnect with many of you as she spoke in churches, met for meals, etc. We are so thankful for such a wonderful group of people who so faithfully support and pray for us! 

How can you being praying for us?

  • Please continue praying for our housemates, Niall, Hannah, and Edie (1 year old) Dunne. We’ve been told by a friend who works in the government that the decision regarding their appeal to lift the 3 year deportation will come at the end of August- pray for favor and a good result!
  • Some exciting opportunities have been opened to us to explore a church planting project in a working class neighborhood. Please pray for wisdom in decision-making, and good communication as we dialogue with our Taiwanese pastor.
  • The 2012 Fall season of our Bilingual ALPHA course kicks off September 14th. This season we’ve raised up new leaders to oversee the “English” part, but are still a part of the speaking team who will bring the message each week. Pray for a rich harvest for God’s glory!

  • Praise the Lord for the ministry opportunities Kelley has at the Garden of Hope. Relationships are deepening and exciting things are in store ahead!
  • Praise the Lord for our international community at Truth Church. We have some very solid, mature friends and co-workers that are blessings from God. September 1-2 we will have our annual retreat together- pray for a refreshing and encouraging time for all.

May you each experience the joy of our Lord today!

Schindler Update 2012_07_18

Dear Faithful Friends and Supporters,

Greetings from Taipei! The month of July has brought changes to our schedules, as Kelley is spending 3 weeks in the US. She’s been visiting family and will be attending a good friend’s wedding this weekend in Syracuse, NY. Besides his regular work at Truth Church, Erich has been busy meeting with different church-planting pastors and missionaries in Taipei city, and exploring the new things God is doing in the broader Taiwanese church! He very much looks forward to Kelley’s return to Taiwan on July 25 😀

How can you being praying for us?

  • This Friday evening, along with two other Taiwanese brothers, Erich will be praying for a Taiwanese Christian brother to experience freedom from bondage in his life, related to a homosexual lifestyle, poor self-image, addictions, and demonic oppression. Please pray for wisdom and the Spirit’s guidance during this time!
  • Please pray for Kelley to be a blessing and help to her friend during the upcoming wedding, and for a safe return to Taipei.
     

Let’s praise the Lord together!

  • A group of foreigners recently prayed for Pastor Moses, who had woken up with a cold that morning. By noon his sore throat and other cold symptoms had completely gone away! Praise the Lord for His healing work in our midst!
  • Just yesterday a new foreigner, David, appeared on our doorstep. He’s a Wheaton grad and will be here for 6 months to do an internship at Truth Church. This is an unexpected blessing from the Lord, who knows we need new workers for the harvest!

Schindler Update 2012_06_18

Dear Faithful Friends and Supporters,

Greetings from Taipei! Last week Taiwan experienced a 6.5 earthquake and severe flooding, resulting in businesses and schools shutting down for a period of time. Thankfully, there was no reported damage or causalities from the earthquake, however lives were lost due to the flooding. As areas around the island are in recovery mode, let’s pray that God might use this disaster for His glory.

 

How can you being praying for us?

  • Please continue praying for our housemates, Niall, Hannah, and Edie (1 year old) Dunne. They returned to England on June 5th and are currently waiting for news from the Taiwan government regarding their visa/work situation. Please pray for good news, and that they may quickly be able to return!
  • Please pray for the girls at the shelter where Kelley serves. They are deeply hurting girls who need to know the hope and peace God offers. There are currently some difficult situations; please pray that Kelley would have insight and wisdom as she talks with the girls.

 

Let’s praise the Lord together!

  • Praise the Lord for recent contacts and relationships Erich has made with pastors from working class churches. These are helpful as we look into the future, exploring more opportunities for working class ministries.
  • Praise the Lord for prayer groups. We meet weekly with members from church to pray for the sick, both physically and spiritually, and additionally both have separate, weekly prayer partners. We are so thankful for these times to pray with fellow believers, and have also experienced together the power of prayer!

Our prayer is that each of you may experience a close walk with our Lord each day!

Schindler Update 2012_05_16

May 16, 2012

Dear Faithful Friends and Supporters,

Greetings from Taipei! We are all moved and have settled nicely into our new apartment. We couldn’t ask for much more in terms of the location of this apartment, as it’s only a 2-minute walk to our church, surrounded by local food shops, near a small park, and close to many friends. We thank God for His wonderful provision for us! Our prayer is that we may be a light for Him to our neighbors and people around us.

How can you being praying for us?

  • Please continue praying for our housemates, Niall, Hannah, and Edie (1 year old) Dunne. They will be returning to England June 5th, hopefully just temporarily.
  • Please pray their case finds favor in the eyes of the government, and that the band is allowed back into the country to continue serving the Lord through music. 
  • Please pray for a fruitful pre-ALPHA course we are running in a daughter church of Truth. Many non-Christians are taking the 11-week course- pray for hearts to come to know Jesus!

Please pray for God’s wisdom in our various ministries- Erich as he serves at church reaching out to working class families; and Kelley as she serves at Garden of Hope, leading Bible studies and serving at local shelters. 

Let’s praise the Lord together!

  • Praise the Lord for opportunities to learn- Erich is currently attending a conference at a local church on church planting. Pray for new insight and creative ideas.
  • Praise the Lord for wonderful relationships Kelley has been able to build with the women at the shelter. Pray for more opportunities to share about Jesus and His love with these hurting women.
  • Praise the Lord that 2 weeks ago 5 members of our international cell groups were taken into membership at Truth Church. Praise the Lord for the body of Christ!

Schindler Update 2012_04_19

April 19, 2012 

Dear Faithful Friends and Supporters,

Greetings from Taipei! This is the last update we’ll be sending from the apartment we’ve called “home” for almost 4 years. As our landlord and his family are moving back in, we are in the midst of packing and moving to a new place. We thank the Lord for His provision of temporary housing for our housemates and us, as we await their visa situation to stabilize before finding permanent housing together. We’ve had a wonderful 4 years in this apartment and have been blessed to allow numerous others to call this place ‘home’ as well during the last years. It’s our prayer that our next home can be used for the Lord just as much as this one has!

How can you being praying for us?

  • Please pray for our housemates, Niall, Hannah, and Edie (1 year old) Dunne, as well as the band Niall is a part of (Transition). They have recently encountered visa/work problems that are out of their control and have the potential to send them back to England. We trust the Lord together for a miracle that will allow them to continue serving in Taiwan through their music ministry!
  • Please pray for an added measure of strength and grace in these extra busy days as we balance moving, various ministries and study, and normal daily responsibilities. May our focus stay on Christ!

  • Praise the Lord for 2 great Bible studies Kelley has the privilege to lead each week at the Garden of Hope. The groups are a mix of Christians and non-Christians, and each week has great discussion and input. Pray for closed hearts to be opened, and for open hearts to be renewed!
  • Erich has recently joined the “Discipleship Training Department” at our Taiwanese church. Praise the Lord for this good fit for him, and for the doors that will open for ministry because of his position there.

“Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.” (Ephesians 3:20f.)

Schindler Update 2012_02_15

February 15, 2012

Dear Faithful Friends and Supporters,

Greetings from Taipei, where today’s weather is sunny and right around 80 degrees F. Having summery days in winter is definitely one of the joys of living on a sub-tropical island J The last month has been no exception in terms of keeping busy, but it’s been a month of being challenged and growing in different ways. Additionally, we celebrated the Chinese New Year with our friends here (a highlight of the year for sure!) and were warmly welcomed into the home of our Taiwanese friend, Shou Yu, for the big New Year’s Eve dinner.

How can you being praying for us?

  • Erich’s seminary studies resume on February 20th. Please pray for a good semester of learning, and time to complete the Chinese assignments. His application for the volunteer position at church is still being processed, but he will most likely begin serving in the mercy ministry department within the month.
  • Pray for Kelley as she adjusts to her new ministry of serving abused women and teenage moms. She’s also been asked to hold a Bible Study at the center, so pray for wisdom and strength for her. 

Let’s praise the Lord together! 

  • A couple weeks ago we took part in a conference called “Kingdom Culture” in a city in the south of Taiwan. This conference was an amazing experience and very challenging in terms of prayer and faith. Praise God for using his servants to encourage and teach us, and pray we’ll continue putting into practice all that we learned!
  • Erich is beginning to lead a man, a cook from a working class neighborhood, through a weekly study on the basics of the Christian faith. Pray for him to see this man through Jesus’ eyes, and to have wisdom as he leads him. 

The joy of the Lord is our strength! May we all continue knowing and loving our Lord more each day.

Quick Update, with Pictures and Short Video

Dear Friends,

First off, many apologies for letting our blogging slide for a while! In the past we’ve been trying our best to post new content to our blog once a week, and we’ll try hard to get back into this routine!

We just wanted to send out a quick update on how we’ve been doing, and what we’ve been up to. Since we leave to pick up Moni from the airport soon we’ll have to use short bullet points to bring you up to speed:

  • Finished our second-to-last quarter of Chinese classes last Friday, with good grades on our final exam. As we have a 1-week break now, we took a trip to Taizhong (Taiwan’s 3rd largest city, located in central Taiwan) over the long weekend to get out of Taipei, relax, and pray about our future after language school. There are several exciting options open to us, but we really want to seek the Lord’s will and guidance before making any decisions. As the Lord clarifies things through prayer, we’ll keep you updated on our future!
  • ALPHA is ramping up over the summer, with several pre-ALPHA activities being planned by our Zone. The course fill officially begin in September, when our Western co-workers are back in country. We’ll post new information on our ALPHA Blog (http://www.crossing7.com/taiwan) when we have news!
  • The Sunday before last our church went on a march for ‘Family Values’ together. We started downtown and walked to the Taipei City Hall, where our Truth Church head pastor (Pastor Yang) gave a short message, followed by various Taiwanese Christian artists performing and sharing testimonies. Even the president’s wife was on stage! Please pray for the growing fire of Revival to burn more and more brightly in Taiwan!! Below are some pictures from the march. You might recognize John, who is one of our cell group members, and a geology professor at the National Taiwan University.
