Dear Friends and Supporters,
Greetings from Taipei! Last month, we shared that our church planting team has been praying about creative new approaches to share God’s love with the broader Taipei society. Here’s how the Lord has been leading us:
During our past 1-2 years of house-church planting, we have succeeded in creating an inclusive church community, but have also learned that most regular Taiwanese people still feel hesitant about connecting with the Christian church in a private home. This limits our effectiveness in reaching new people beyond our present circle of friends. We need to bring the church even deeper into Taiwanese society. But how?
Over the past few months, our team has prayerfully weighed different strategies, and determined that the Lord is leading us to start a Gospel coffee shop in our local Taipei neighborhood, providing a friendly space to introduce many of our Taiwanese friends to Jesus through community events, deep relationships, and church life.
Many of our Taiwanese Christian friends from working-class backgrounds are excited about this new church planting approach. Most of their own family and friends refuse to enter a Christian church building for cultural reasons. Our coffee house church plant can finally open a natural pathway for unchurched working-class Taiwanese to encounter Jesus in a neutral setting.
We will begin fundraising for this church planting project in the coming weeks, and would appreciate your prayers as we step out in faith. We will share more details with all of you regarding our fundraising goals, business plan, etc… as they are finalized. In the meantime, please feel free to email us if you have any questions on this project. Thanks!
For the Glory of God,
Erich, Kelley, Max, and Sam Schindler
